THE PLACE AND IMPORTANCE OF PADDY PRODUCTION IN AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISES IN ÇANAKKALE PROVINCE

Abstract

In the period of 2018/19, 745 million tons of paddy was produced in 163 million ha area in the world, and China, India and Indonesia come forward as the main countries in paddy production. In global paddy production, Turkey has 0,07% of the production area, and provides 0,13% of total paddy production, and 0,11% of total rice production. Due to supply defict, Turkey imported 130 million USD of paddy and rice in 2019. According to data of 2020, Çanakkale province has 8,95% of Turkey’s paddy production areas, and provides 9,59% of total paddy production amount. In 2020, paddy production contributed Çanakkale province’s vegetative production value for 499.702.500 TL, and it took the 5th place in the province’s crop pattern. In this study, paddy production in Çanakkale province was examined by means of the data which were collected from 74 agricultural enterprises in 2018, and the Stratified Sampling Method was used to determine sampling size. According to the research results, paddy takes the first place in enterprises’ crop pattern with 43,99% proportional share, and paddy is followed by wheat and sunflower. Paddy yield mean of the enterprises was 785,18 kg/da, and production value was calculated as 2.294,68 TL/da. In the study, it was found out that subsidies such as diesel fuel, fertilizer, certified seed usage subsides, and deficiency payments; increase gross output value by 5,69%. Foreign capital usage ratio of the research area was found as 51,35%. In order to increase paddy production areas and production amount in Çanakkale province; producers’ awareness levels about subsidies should be increased by training activities in order to make them utilise subsidies widely, also they should be trained by means of demonstration activities about some topics such as; efficient input usage, and environmental aspect of input usage, different production methods, certified seed usage. Besides, deficiency payment amount which was 0,10 krş/kg between 2018 and 2020, should be revised according to the present conditions.
