Abstract

In the trade of animal products and in the context of international competition; the yield per animal, production cost, and degree of profitability play an important role. The size of an enterprise is an important factor that affects the profitablity of animal production. An animal production enterprise must be a certain size in order to have both efficiency and cost advantages. In this study 141 dairy farms were evaluated in 3 size groups (small, medium, and large), and the amount of milk yield per dairy cow, the milk production value, and the profitability levels per unit were analyzed. The milking cow average per farm was determined as 4.87 heads. The average yield per dairy cow was 5405.9 lt/lactation/head, and the highest values were obtained from the large group (yield was 5671.1 lt/lactation/head; milk production value per dairy cow was 2778.84 USD/head; the profit per liter was 0.05 USD). Within the study it was revealed that there was a statistically significant difference at the level of 5% between the farm size groups and the milk amount per dairy cow. The results of the research revealed that the agricultural organization was quite weak in the research area. Dairy cattle enterprises with an organized structure sell milk at higher prices and gain higher profits per liter. In order to benefit from the advantages of being a large enterprise, it is important to have easy access to affordable interest loans. In terms of input supply and product marketing, it is important to go under agricultural organizations. It is also necessary to use modern agricultural techniques in production; and to increase employee’s general and vocational education levels.
