Abstract

Substance Use Disorder is a disease that continues with remission and relapse, despite its significant negative consequences, with recurrent substance use behavior. Disease; There are many effects that may affect the role loss, deterioration of close relationships, deterioration of social functioning, decrease in self-esteem, sudden emotional changes, perception disorders, medical problems etc. Depending on the substance used, the individual perceives the well-being as a negative, and the addicted person continues to use the substance as a coping method to maintain goodness. In order to maintain compliance with treatment and to maintain the wellbeing of individuals, it is essential to fight relapse.In the fight against relapse, it is important that the dependent individual is strengthened cognitively and emotionally. Conscious awareness; It includes both being at the moment and being aware of and controlling emotions and mental performance.Emotion regulation; It is composed of internal and external reactions used by the individual to monitor, evaluate and change the emotional reactions of the individual. Feelings; It has an important place in the behaviors directed towards the matter.It is also known that individuals who have difficulty in regulating emotion often have problems in providing impulse control and aiming towards focused behaviors. Individuals; In order to relieve stress, relieve stress, control anxiety, and change the feelings they do not want, they turn to substance use behavior as ineffective coping, or individuals with substance abuse tend to get rid of these negative feelings in deprivation. At first, substance abuse, which is started to manage a critical situation or a crisis situation, eventually becomes uncontrollable and the individual finds himself in a vicious circle.Considering that the most important internal problem affecting the onset and continuation of the article is the ineffective coping mechanism of the individual, it is stated that the pre-dependency individuals are able to regulate their emotions effectively and that their conscious awareness is the protective factor. It can be said that the individuals who can use the ability to regulate emotions in relapse prevention and adaptation to treatment and individuals who use emotion regulation skills in cases where deprivation leads to negative behaviors can be said to be more effective. This paper will discuss the importance of developing a conscious awareness and emotional regulation strategy to strengthen individuals with substance abuse disorders from a nurse's eye.
