Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of skill training applied to schizophrenia patients on functionality.

Method: For the meta-analysis, 19 studies published between 2003 and 2021 were reached by scanning Google Scholar, PubMed, EBSCOhost, Web of Science, and Yök Thesis databases. The data were synthesized using meta-analysis and narrative methods.

Results: Based on the findings of this meta-analysis, it was found that the mean scores of skill training aimed at increasing functionality in patients with schizophrenia were statistically significant (SMD: 0.796, 95% CI: (0.465) - (1.127); Z= 4.717, p = 0.000, I2= % 89,397). In the subgroup analyzes, it was determined that the types of skill training interventions, the number of sessions of the training and the average age of the patients were effective in increasing the level of functionality.

Conclusion: Skills training is a psychosocial intervention that can be applied to individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia because it increases functionality.
