Abstract

ABSTRACT Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine the views of nursing senior students about violence against health personnel. Methods: In the study, case study design was used within the scope of qualitative research model. 28 students studying in the nursing department participated in the study. The data were collected using the open-ended question technique. The use of content analysis was preferred in the analysis of the data obtained, and the data were interpreted according to categories. Five questions were asked about the opinions of the participants on violence against health professionals. These; What comes to mind when it comes to violence against health personnel, who is practicing violence against health personnel, which clinic is more risky to work in, factors that increase violence in health institutions, and what can be done to prevent violence against health personnel. Results: The majority of the students participating in the study used the "physical violence" code regarding the concept of violence against healthcare personnel. After the codes of "psychological violence" and "verbal violence" were expressed in the interviews. The answer to the question of who has committed the violence against health personnel is mostly "patient's relative". This was followed by the 'patient' code. When asked which clinic is risky in terms of violence, the answer was mostly "Emergency service". This was followed by the 'psychiatry clinic' and 'intensive care service' response. To the question of the reasons that increase the violence in the health institution; The codes "unable to manage psychological state" and "communication errors" were the two most expressed codes. Opinions regarding "education-awareness raising" and "security" were the most frequently asked about what can be done to prevent violence against health personnel. Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was concluded that the initiatives to increase the awareness of nursing students, who are health professional candidates, about violence during their education process, to raise awareness of the society, to train them, to make improvements in the health system, to increase the number of health personnel, and to apply legal frameworks and sanctions.
