Abstract

ABSTRACT DOMESTIC ORGANIC WASTES AND ALTERNATIVE MANAGEMENTS Nowadays, continous population growth, consumption and industrilization accelerating, bring some environmental problems. One of these problems is the improper management of waste. Improper disposal of wastes can cause to damage to environment. Waste management need to be implemented correctly, not only institutionally but also individually. Domestic wastes are organic wastes at the rate of nearly % 60 of all the wastes. In this study, vermicompost (worm casts) production processes and techniques are examined as an alternative method for the evaluation of domestic organic wastes individually. Vermicompost production is an effective and rapid method for the management of organic waste using soil worms and can also recycle valuable resources such as nutrients. Here, as a result of our existing data; fully recycling product that supports plant development, organic fertilizer can be obtained which is friendly for environment. In this study, vermicompost production techniques, which are an effective method in organic waste management, its importance and advantages are evaluated. In addition, vermicompost as a component of the applicable alternative waste management system, with the emphasis on contributing to the reduction of domestic waste at source; The positive impacts on the economy and the environment are analyzed and firstly, it is suggested that it should be disseminated.
