Özet

Okul kültürü terimi genellikle bir okulun işleyişinin her yönünü etkileyen ve şekillendiren inançları, algıları, ilişkileri, tutumları ve yazılı ve yazılı olmayan kuralları ifade eder. Ancak terim aynı zamanda öğrencilerin fiziksel ve duygusal güvenliği gibi daha somut konuları da kapsar. Öğrenciler, veliler, öğretmenler, yöneticiler ve diğer personelin tümü, okulun bulunduğu topluluk, sistemin nasıl işlediğini yöneten politikalar veya okulun dayandığı ilkeler okullarının kültürüne katkıda bulunur. Eğitim dünyasında “okul kültürü” terimi büyük önem taşımaktadır. Okul kültürü, bir okulun kolektif kalp atışıdır çünkü durağan değildir ve sürekli gelişir. Müdürlerden bölüm başkanlarına kadar okul liderleri, kültüre rehberlik etme ve yetiştirme sorumluluğunu taşır. Güçlü liderler sadece mevcut kültürü anlamakla kalmaz, aynı zamanda onu okulun misyon ve vizyonuna uygun şekilde şekillendirme kapasitesine de sahiptir. Akademik başarı, sosyal ve duygusal gelişim ve uzun vadeli kişisel gelişim, bir öğrencinin yolculuğunun temel taşlarıdır ve hepsi daldıkları okul kültüründen önemli ölçüde etkilenir.  Bir okul topluluğu topluca öğrencilerinin potansiyeline inandığında ve gerekli desteği sağladığında, akademik başarı sadece bir istek değil, somut bir gerçeklik haline gelir. Öğrenciler, arkalarında toplanan bir öğretmen, sınıf arkadaşı ve akıl hocası ağına sahip olduklarını bildiklerinde, engellerin üstesinden gelme ve akademik olarak başarılı olma olasılıkları daha yüksektir. Kapsayıcılık, olumlu bir okul kültürünün kalbinde yer alır. Şeffaf iletişim ve paylaşılan değerlerin oluşturulması, olumlu bir kültürün temel direkleridir. Sınıfın ötesindeki çeşitli ders dışı fırsatlar, öğrencilere ilgi alanlarını, yeteneklerini ve tutkularını keşfetmeleri için yollar sağlar.
