Writing Rules

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

General Principles

The EJONS International Journal of Mathematics, Engineering and Natural Sciences aims to contribute to the scientific community by publishing experimental, theoretical (conceptual), and applied research and studies conducted in the fields of science and health sciences as a result of peer-review evaluation. The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English. For publications written in Turkish, the latest spelling guide and Turkish dictionary published by the Turkish Language Association are taken as a basis. For manuscripts written in English, it is recommended that the author(s) have the language reviewed by a linguist before submission.

Manuscripts submitted for publication must not have been published anywhere previously and must not have obtained publication rights elsewhere. Studies must be prepared in accordance with scientific ethics. When research results requiring an Ethics Committee Report are submitted as articles, a copy of the Ethics Committee Report must be attached. All responsibility for the articles to be published in the journal belongs to the author(s).

Manuscripts are sent to referees according to their content and the areas of expertise of the referees. The section editor who examines the manuscript proposes at least two referees from the referee pool of the EJONS International Journal of Mathematics, Engineering and Natural Sciences according to their fields of expertise or may suggest new referees suitable for the field of the study. Care is taken to ensure that each referee is from a different institution and not from the same institution as the authors. The referee suggestions received from the section editor are evaluated by the editors, and the manuscripts are forwarded to the referees. Referees must guarantee that they will not share any process or document related to the manuscripts they evaluate.

Preprints of accepted manuscripts are sent to the corresponding author, who checks them for printing errors and returns them within a short time. After the manuscript is accepted for publication, no changes can be made to the manuscript text, the authors, or the order of authors.

All authors whose names appear in the manuscript must sign the Copyright Transfer Form stating that they have transferred the publication rights to the EJONS International Journal of Mathematics, Engineering and Natural Sciences.

In the same issue, a maximum of two (2) articles may be published with the same author as the first author. The EJONS International Journal of Mathematics, Engineering and Natural Sciences is published four (4) times a year in March, June, September, and December.

 Manuscript Preparation Format

The manuscript text should be written on one side of A4-sized paper, in 12-point font size (including all headings), using Times New Roman font, and single-spaced. Page margins should be 2.5 cm from the top, bottom, left, and right. Each page and each line of the manuscript must be numbered (continuous numbering). Paragraph indentations in the manuscript text should be 1 cm.

The manuscript should consist of the following main sections: Turkish Title, Turkish Abstract, Keywords, English Title, English Abstract, Keywords, 1. Introduction, 2. Material and Methods, 3. Results and Discussion, 4. Conclusions, Author Contributions Statement (if any), Conflict of Interest Statement (if any), Funding (if any), Ethical Approval (if any), Acknowledgement (if any), References, Figures and Tables. Depending on the narrative style of the manuscript, the “Discussion” section may be presented as a separate main section apart from the “Results.” In manuscripts written in Turkish, the Turkish abstract should be given first, followed by the English abstract; in manuscripts written in English, only the English abstract should be provided.

All main section and, if any, subsection headings must be written in bold letters without paragraph indentation, and all words used in subsection headings must be written in lowercase letters.

In the manuscript text uploaded to the system, information identifying the author(s), such as name-surname, institution, and contact information, must not be included (Templates and Forms).

The manuscript, including the “References” section, must not exceed 24 pages. The author(s) may use the Manuscript Preparation Template available on the journal’s website when preparing these sections.

Accordingly, the manuscript text should be prepared in the following order according to the principles below:

 Manuscript Title

The title should be short, concise, and appropriate to the manuscript content, and should be written in bold, centered, with the first letter of each word capitalized. The English title must fully correspond to the Turkish title.

Abstract

In Turkish and English abstracts, the words “Özet” and “Abstract” should be used, respectively. The abstract should be concise, comprehensive, and highlight all important points of the manuscript—why and how the study was conducted, what was found, and what these findings indicate. Each of the Turkish and English abstracts must not exceed 200 words. Literature should not be used in this section. The Abstract sections should be placed one line below the Turkish and English titles, respectively, without paragraph indentation.

Keywords

One line below the Turkish and English abstracts, the headings “Anahtar Kelimeler” and “Keywords” should be written, respectively; all keywords should be written in lowercase letters (except proper nouns), preferably not used in the title, and should best describe the study, with a maximum of six keywords.

  1. Introduction

This section explains the content and rationale of the manuscript with literature information and should clearly present the aim of the study and the hypothesis to be tested.

  1. Material and Methods

The materials and methods used should be presented under the same heading. If subheadings are used, they should be numbered together with the section number (e.g., 2.1., 2.2.). The materials used in the research, and especially new or modified methods, should be explained in detail to allow repetition by other researchers. However, if previously published methods are used, they should be cited without extensive explanation. Appropriate statistical method(s) to answer the tested hypothesis should be used and explained. Measures of variation such as standard error or standard deviation of the mean should be given when necessary.

  1. Results and Discussion

The results obtained should be explained in this section, supported by tables, figures, and graphs when necessary. Data presented in tables should not be repeated in the text or figures. However, important data in figures should also be given in the text. In cases where the statistical analysis method is not appropriately selected and/or the analysis is not properly conducted, the Statistics Editor may exclude the manuscript from evaluation. In the discussion, the importance of the results obtained and their contribution to science and practice should be discussed, evaluated, or interpreted with reference to the literature.

  1. Conclusions

The contribution of the results obtained to science and practice, and recommendations if any, should be given briefly and concisely. Statements given in the Introduction and Results and Discussion sections should not be repeated verbatim in this section.

Author Contributions Statement

Author contribution statements should be written. For example: The authors declare that they contributed equally to the manuscript, have seen/read and approved the final version of the manuscript ready for publication.

Conflict of Interest Statement

All authors declare that there is no conflict of interest for this study.

Funding

This study was supported by the Sivas University of Science and Technology Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordination Unit under project number “2016.10.07.1091” and by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) under project number “120O576”.

Ethical Approval

For studies requiring ethical committee approval, information regarding the approval (committee name, date, and approval number) must be provided in the methods section and also on the first/last page of the manuscript.

For case reports, information indicating that an informed consent form was signed must be included in the manuscript.

Acknowledgement

This study was produced from the first author’s master’s/doctoral thesis.

References

In-text citations:

In manuscripts written in Turkish, regardless of the language of the cited article, “and” or “et al.” should not be used in citation format. In manuscripts written in English, regardless of the language of the cited article, “ve” or “ve ark.” should not be used.

Sources such as progress reports, project final reports, project drafts, theses not accessible to the public, and internet information not written in a scientific manner should not be cited.

Citations in the text should be made according to the “(Author surname–year)” principle:
Examples: (Çilesiz, 2022), (Çilesiz ve Seydoşoğlu, 2023), (Çilesiz ve ark., 2018); in manuscripts written in English: (Çilesiz, 2010), (Çilesiz and Seydoşoğlu, 2023), (Çilesiz et al., 2018).

If citation is made by mentioning the author in the text, only the publication year should be placed in parentheses:
Examples: According to Çığ (2010); Çilesiz ve Seydoşoğlu (2013); Çilesiz ve ark. (2018).
In English manuscripts: Çilesiz and Seydoşoğlu (2013); Çilesiz et al. (2018).

For three or more authors, “ve ark.” should be used in Turkish manuscripts and “et al.” in English manuscripts.

If more than one source by the same author published in the same year is used, letters a, b, c should be added after the publication year.

If multiple publications by the same author are cited, they should be separated by commas after the year.

If citations from different authors are used, a semicolon (;) should be used between citations and chronological order should be followed.

For different authors with the same publication year, alphabetical order should be used.

Preparation of the References List

All references cited in the text must be listed alphabetically (according to authors’ surnames) and in their original language. Journal and conference/symposium names should be written in full without abbreviation and in italics.

Except for the first line, subsequent lines of each reference should have a hanging indent of 0.5 cm. All article titles in the references should be written in lowercase letters (except proper nouns).

The responsibility for incorrect citations and references belongs to the author(s).

Figures and Tables

All figures, graphs, images, photographs, maps, and similar materials included in the manuscript should be referred to as “Figure,” and tables and charts as “Table,” in bold. All figures and tables should be placed at the end of the manuscript in numerical order. Figures should be of a size suitable for printing, and images should have a resolution of 600 dpi.

Each figure and table must be cited in the text and numbered consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2, Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Figure and table titles and explanations in each cell should be short and concise.

Figure and table titles should be written in 11-point font, and the text within figures and tables should be between 9–11 points as appropriate. All abbreviations used in tables and figures, as well as explanations required for statistical analyses, should be provided as footnotes in 7-point font immediately below the table/figure, with each abbreviation explanation separated by a comma (,). No period (.) should be placed at the end of figure and table titles or footnotes.

Units

SI (Système International d’Unités) units must be used in all manuscripts. Decimal fractions should be indicated with a dot (.) in the manuscript text and in figures and tables.

A space must be left between numbers and symbols. Exceptions apply to degree, minute, and second symbols used for plane angles (°, ′, ″), which should be placed immediately after the number.

The abbreviation for liter should be written as “L,” not “l.” Periods should not be used after symbols unless they appear at the end of a sentence.

Abbreviations and/or Symbols

Abbreviations should be avoided as much as possible. If abbreviations are used, the full term should be written at first use, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. The same applies to symbols. Internationally accepted and established abbreviations should be preferred.

Abbreviations should not be used in the manuscript title. Symbols should be given according to the SI system.

Formulas

Formulas should be numbered, and the formula number should be shown in parentheses, right-aligned next to the formula.

The Word equation editor should be used when writing formulas; main characters should be 10-point font, variables italicized, and numbers and mathematical expressions written in plain text. When cited in the text, formulas should be referred to as “Equation 1.”

Supplementary Files

In addition to the manuscript text, the following documents must be prepared and uploaded to the system during submission:

  • Title Page in Word format including author(s)’ names, affiliations, and corresponding author contact information
  • Copyright Transfer Form signed by all authors and scanned in PDF format
  • Ethics Committee Report, if required

If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the original Copyright Transfer Form must be sent to the editor by mail.

Manuscript Submission

The prepared manuscript and related supplementary files must be uploaded electronically only by the corresponding author via the “Submit Manuscript” section on the EJONS International Journal of Mathematics, Engineering and Natural Sciences website (https://ejons.org/index.php/ejons/about/submissions).
