Abstract

Aim: Dental trauma is one of the oral and dental health problems frequently seen in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. It is seen that permanent upper central teeth are mostly affected in this type of injury. Avulsion injuries, which have the worst prognosis among traumatic dental injuries, are the state of the tooth coming out of the alveolar socket as a result of trauma and constitutes about 7.6% of dental traumas. In this study, we planned to evaluate the parents' knowledge levels and their approaches to first intervention in the face of traumatic dental injuries, avulsion status. Method: For this study, a total of three hundred volunteers who were residing in Diyarbakır, who were applied to Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry, were selected by random sampling method. A data collection questionnaire consisting of sixteen questions and three parts was applied to the participants. In the first part, the personal information of the participating parents, in the second part, their personal experiences against the situation, and in the third part, their attitudes towards the status of avulsion were questioned. The answers were calculated as a percentage. Student t-test for comparison of independent groups at the stage of data evaluation, while examining the relationships between independent variables; Chi Square test was used. Results: As a result of the research, it was seen that a significant part of the participants did not receive training on dental injuries. It was concluded that the parents did not have sufficient information that a tooth should be placed urgently in the avulsa. It was determined that parents did not know what to pay attention to when cleaning a tooth in the avullos. 54.3% of the participant parents stated that they could not replace a tooth in the avulse. While the age variable affects the answers given to some questions, the gender variable was not effective. It was evaluated that parents did not have sufficient first aid knowledge about dental avulsion and emergency treatment procedures. We suggest that traumatic dental injuries should be included in general first aid information issues and reach a higher number of parents.
