The aim of this study was to evaluate cardiac problems with echocardiography before ne-utering surgery in healthy cats.Sterilization is a surgical intervention to permanently stop the reproduction of animals. First, the body condition score of the cats coming to the clinic was evaluated, and it was deemed appropriate to perform echocardiography after taking blood and thorax radiography. In echocardiography studies, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) was found to be a frequently reported heart disease in cats. Decisions were made to provide medi-cal treatment before sterilization. With measurements made using transthoracic echocardiog-raphy and 2D, M-mode and color Doppler imaging techniques, clear results were obtained about the thickness of the heart wall, the dimensions of the heart chambers and the pericar-dium. Statistically significant differences were revealed between left atrium and left ventricu-lar free wall thickness among cats (P < .001). Correct interpretation of the information obtai-ned from imaging methods and taking precautions are of great importance as they are life-saving for these patients. Developments in technology make significant contributions to the early detection of high-risk patients.
