Abstract

Turkish Bookbinding Art has become an art branch with the use of paper that started in Central Asia and matured over time. The best known examples of Asian-origin binding art are seen in Turkish-Islamic bookbinding art.

The Turkish binding provided a very important cultural service by using it in an aesthetic way, together with illumination, in order to use the pleasure of the book, to awaken the enthusiasm for reading and to protect the book within the scope of the respect and respect given by the Islamic faith.

The works that emerged by covering the decorations made with various paints and gold on cardboard, leather or wood with a kind of varnish were called 'lake'. The number of 'lacquer' bindings in our libraries is very few in proportion to leather bindings, because 'lacquer' bindings are both difficult to make and are protective. It cracks and falls off easily. Today, beautiful 'lacquer' skin cannot be made as before. The color of the skins that are tried to be repaired also changes and the joints become evident. This article on lacquer bindings, which is an important form of binding application, the production phase and the ones used while preparing it, aims to introduce the art of lacquer binding to future generations.
