INVESTIGATION OF PERCEPTIONS AND EMOTIONS FOR THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction and Purpose: The Covıd-19 outbreak in the world; it has affected and continues to affect millions of people. Many measures were taken after the first case was detected in our country on March 11, 2020. However, covid-19 is perceived as a major health threat by humans due to its rapid and easy transmission, which is fatal. The uncertainty of the Covid-19 process, the limitations of the measures taken, the change in the usual lifestyle affect symbiotes and feelings of people. The aim of this study was to examine how students are affected by their feelings along with their views, beliefs and perceptions of the epidemic. Methods: This study, designed in an identifying type, was conducted between May and June 2020 at a university in eastern Turkey. The research was conducted with 461 students studying in health-related departments. Introductory Information Form, Covid-19 Pandemic Perception Survey and Positive and Negative Emotion Scale were used in the collection of data. Results: The average age of the students who participated in the study was 20.72±2.04 years and 73.3% were female. It was determined that 96.5% of students followed developments related to pandemics. The students' positive emotion score average was 25.57 ± 7.90 and the negative emotion score average was 25.69 ± 7.92. 66.2% of students said they could get sick at any time, 79.8% said the process affected emotional state, and 79.8% said covid-19 was dangerous. Conclusion: According to the results of the study, it was determined that the students evaluated the Covid-19 process correctly and had high perceptions. Negative and Positive emotion score averages were found to be no different. It is recommended that similar studies be carried out in different groups.
