Abstract

With increasing industrialization, pollution pressure on natural resources such as water, air and soil is increasing. Discharge of dyestuffs, which are widely used especially in the textile industry, into receiving environments without purification constitutes an important source of water pollution. Studies in the literature reveal that these dyes may have toxic and carcinogenic properties. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, nitro compounds and similar chemical species found in the structure of dyestuffs can cause various health problems, especially bladder cancer; It is also reported that it poses a risk in cases of skin contact, inhalation and eye contact. In recent years, studies on dye removal from textile wastewater using activated carbon, an economical and effective adsorbent, have increased. In this study, the adsorption of Crystal Violet solutions prepared at different concentrations using activated carbon obtained from acorns was examined. The effect of parameters such as solution concentration, pH and temperature on the adsorption process was evaluated. The findings showed that optimum adsorption occurred at pH 6. Additionally, it was determined that the adsorption capacity increased with increasing contact time and temperature. As a result, it has been revealed that activated carbon obtained from acorn is an effective and applicable adsorbent in dye removal.
